SORRY, GUV - Prison boss surprise in convicts hunt

Bishop Auckland removal men Stephen Metcalfe and Donald Bradford could not believe it when their lorry was stopped and searched at a police road block. For the police were looking for six convicts who had escaped from a van taking them to Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight. And that was exactly where the two Bishop Auckland drivers were heading for with furniture for the prison's new governor Peter Meech who is taking over at Parkhurst after leaving Durham Jail.

Malcolm Ingram, a spokesperson for Ingram's of Bishop Auckland said today: "My lads were a bit taken aback, to have their wagon searched by police while carrying the Governor's furniture is the last things they expected."

The lorry was stopped last Wednesday in Liphook, Hampshire within a few miles from the spot where the prisoners went on the run. "They would probably have ended up at Parkhurst even quicker if they had hidden in the back of our wagon," joked Mr Ingram.

Mr Meech is taking over at the top security Parkhurst Jail after several years at Durham Prison. "He has the top post in the country and we were pleased to move his goods for him, thankfully, our staff got to the Isle of Wight alright in the end," said Mr Ingram.

Judith Wilkinson - Durham City

"I would like to say thank you so much, to you and all of the team who got us moved on Friday.

It was a mammoth task packing up not just the usual household furniture and bits and pieces but Steve's massive memorabilia collection and arcade cabinets. It took two full days for just wrapping and boxing up. I found all of your staff to be pleasant, careful and amenable to our requests, particularly John and Mick who were a calming influence.

Thank you also for sending extra staff to get us unloaded in a timely way after the keys were delayed, they all worked respectfully and without fuss. I keep looking around not quite believing we did it and it and that we're here, I'm very grateful that we chose Ingram's.
I would not hesitate to recommend your company."

Marie Fessey - Moved from Durham to Worcestershire

"Martin and I have been travelling internationally for the past 30 years, now on our return to the UK we were facing our first move with in the UK. I had not heard of your company, I was recommended by a former client of yours. From the first contact with you I was so very impressed. Moving is such a stressful time, your vehicle livery was so smart and the crew Kevin and Jamie were perfect gentlemen, we felt relaxed and confident our move would go well.

Our delivery arrived exactly on time with such professionalism, with Kevin having a very difficult access manoeuvre, again it went well. I can highly recommend Ingram's for your Removal & Storage services."

It was lovely to see their camaraderie and cooperation among themselves. They had hollow legs for tea and coffee and we were more than happy to keep them filled up! Thank you all, very much, for making our move as smooth and painless as it was."
