What is there To Do in County Durham...?

County Durham has a long history stretching back to medieval times. It has strong religious ties with Durham Cathedral, Egglestone Abbey and Finchale Priory.

The region used to be an industrial area held in special regard for the developments in coal mines and trains during the industrial revolution - often referred to as the Cradle of the Railways.

Known as the Land of the Prince Bishops the region was in earlier times a place of local feudal border protection.

Local tourist attractions include Durham Cathedral and Castle, Beamish Museum, Kynren, Locomotion, Weardale Railway Trust, Raby Castle, High Force, the entire Durham Dales ... to name but a few.

Local tourist attractions include the numerous castles and religious centres as well as the more cosmopolitan centres such as Durham, Darlington and Hartlepool.

There are extensive walking and cycling routes throughout the area.
